LANTERN PARADE RETURNS TO WINCHESTER CATHEDRAL - 6.30pm, 28 November 2019.
Winchester Cathedral’s lantern parade is back for 2019! Now a firm fixture in the City’s Christmas festivities it will start at 6.30pm on Thursday 28 November in the Cathedral Outer Close.
The parade is a great event for all the family whether you participate or come just to enjoy the colourful spectacle, lap up the atmosphere and admire the skilfully made weird and wonderful lanterns. This year’s theme is The Christmas Story.
The celebrations begin inside the Cathedral at 6pm and include live music and congregational carols led by Churches Together in Winchester. The procession of colourful handmade paper and willow lanterns will leave the Cathedral at 6.30pm and parade around the Outer Close, gathering for fireworks at c.7pm. All are welcome but please register (free) with the Cathedral Box Office (01962 857 275) if wishing to take part or see our website: www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk.
You can make your own lantern with Bella Crafts by visiting the workshop at their store in Fair Oak, on Sunday 24 November, 9.30am – 12.30pm and 1pm - 4pm; plus every day after school, 3.30pm - 5.30pm. Alternatively if you can’t make a workshop, you can buy a kit. Please see www.bellacrafts.co.uk/lantern-parade for all of the details you need to take part.
Please note that, if you are joining as a participant you will need to come to the main entrance of the Cathedral at 5.30pm.
So, if you want to see a floating Christmas pudding, or even less likely, a floating Christmas armadillo (!) head on down to the Cathedral Close on Thursday 28 November.
