Award-winning wedding and special event florist Jay Archer Floral Design celebrated British Flowers Week with an enchanting evening of blooms and botanical cocktails at Winchester’s River Cottage Canteen.
Some Enchanted Evening was held in association with Winchester based Cabinet Rooms, a food and drink events company owned by Gary Whiter and Marcus Roe.
Nestled under a canopy of moss and English roses sponsored by Hampshire growers The Real Flower Company, Jay regaled flower crowned guests with an enthusiastic talk about British flowers, while Gary and Marcus served three of their cocktail creations – Alresford Collins, Winchester Rose and Mint Meadow – mixed and muddled using locally-grown flowers and herbs.
The candlelit cocktail tasting was held during British Flowers Week (13th – 19th June), the annual celebration of seasonal, locally-grown flowers and foliage that aims to raise awareness of the UK flower industry.
The Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired installation was created by Jay and her team using peonies, lysimachia, elderflower, hops, sage, mint, lavender, delphinium, allium, stocks, alstroemeria, sweet williams and lots of foliage.
As a florist who uses predominately seasonal and UK flowers, Jay was keen to support growers and spread awareness to a larger audience.
Jay explained: “British Flowers Week is an important date on our calendar, and thanks to Gary and Marcus from Cabinet Rooms, we were able to create a truly memorable event that reached a whole new audience.
“The positive feedback from guests was overwhelming and there are plans to take the concept ‘on the road’ next year.”
