A sky full of stars

Gunwharf Quays celebrated the start of the festive season in style with its annual fireworks extravaganza. Thousands of visitors lined the waterfront to enjoy a spectacular display set to music.
The evening kicked off with entertainment from popular girl band M.O. who performed their hit single ‘Preach’. Local country music duo Ward Thomas wowed the crowds with their incredible voices, performing songs from their number one album ‘Cartwheels’ and renowned vocalist JP Cooper closed the show with his hit ‘Perfect Strangers’.
Wave 105 presenter Steve Power provided the introductions, keeping the crowd entertained with give-aways and competitions throughout the evening. Following the music the Solent skies were filled with the lights of over 2,000 fireworks, captivating the audience below.
Visitors made the most of the centre’s extended opening hours, getting a head start on Christmas shopping and enjoying discounts of up to 60% at the 90 designer outlet stores.
Colin Wilding, general manager at Gunwharf Quays, said: “Every year our fireworks event is extremely popular and a great opportunity to get the local community together to enjoy an evening of extra special entertainment. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the live music, incredible fireworks display and of course some great discounts across our famous name brands. With our stores now open even longer, our new Christmas TV advert on show and our new Christmas decorations lit up all around the centre, tonight has been a fabulous way to launch our festive season.”
The evening also featured the unveiling of Gunwharf Quays’ new Christmas light display, creating a magical atmosphere throughout the centre.
Gunwharf Quays is now open later over the festive period. On Thursdays and Fridays until the 23rd December the centre will be open until 9pm.
