Gunwharf Quays has announced that a fantastic £1,400 was raised for children’s charity Barnardo’s during its annual fireworks extravaganza, which saw thousands of visitor’s flock to the waterfront shopping destination and enjoy a spectacular fireworks display across the Solent.
During the event, volunteers from Barnardo’s, the Portsmouth Round Table, the King’s Theatre and colleagues from Gunwharf Quays joined the Barnardo’s bears to entertain the crowds and encouraged visitors to donate to help local children living in poverty. The collection buckets raised £1,200 on the night, with an additional £200 raised from a raffle at the event’s VIP reception.
In support of the charity, the Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quays also turned ‘Barnardo’s green’ during the event, creating a memorable back drop for the fireworks display.
Colin Wilding, General Manager at Gunwharf Quays, said: “I’m delighted that we raised such a large amount for Barnardo’s during our fireworks extravaganza. I would like to thank all of our visitors that gave generously on the night. Barnardo’s aims to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children, with a vision of a world where no child is turned away - I hope our donation will help the charity on its way to achieving this.”
