New manager appointed at Silversprings

Posted: 11th December 2018

Silversprings Garden Centre in Titchfield has promoted Marie King to Garden Centre Manager, after recognising her exemplary skills and talent.

Marie worked at a family run nursery in Warsash, growing plants for more than 40 years, her first job in her career.  Her wealth and breadth of knowledge within the horticultural industry is second to none.

Silversprings in Titchfield changed ownership earlier this year, being bought by businessman Mike Jarvis, who kept on all the staff to take the business forward and started to look for staff to join the growing team to develop the garden centre and expand its offering.

Starting work at Silversprings Garden Centre was quite a big change for her Marie.  She was a little nervous moving into a retail environment rather than as a grower but took to it like a duck to water.

Rachel Blake, marketing manager at Silversprings commented: “We were delighted to welcome Marie into the team here at Silversprings and recognised early on her capabilities and strengths in her people skills as well as her horticultural knowledge.

“She has a great ability, not just with plants but with the staff too.  She is a great asset to the business and we look forward to developing her role as the centre manager and working with her experience and knowledge to expand our offering.

Marie King added: “The summer was great and changing my role from a grower to retail manager has been quite a change for me. I love it and I’m really looking forward to all the development plans Mike and Rachel have for the centre.

“We are currently selling our Christmas trees, which are flying out the door.  And we have already sent orders out to local schools too.  I have to say the Christmas trees are my favourite they are so beautiful, and it gives me a chance to work outside and chat to the customers.”

Marie continued: “One area of the business I would like to focus on is sourcing different plants for the Spring and listening to our customers requests to find more unusual species.  With my background in growing plants I think there are all sorts of opportunities and exciting project we can develop at Silversprings.”
