Portsmouth-based Need Street Food to compete at British Street Food Awards supported by Hellmann’s
The British Street Food Awards, supported by Hellmann’s, offers the chance for independent caterers to take part in the world’s toughest street food competition. The southern regional heats are set to take place on 25th – 27th May at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth where 13 street food traders will battle it out for a place in the London finals.
Portsmouth-based Need Street Food will be serving up their tasty signature dishes which include the Philly Dip Roll, French Dip Roll and the Rosemary salted fried.
This year’s regional heat will feature more entrants than ever before, with judges including Jon Marsden-Jones, Head Chef of the Michelin-starred Black Rat restaurant in Winchester.
Entrants to last year’s competition, Buckinghamshire-based Bubble&, went on to secure investment from Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar on the BBC’s My Million Pound Menu.
Richard Johnson, founder of the British Street Food Awards supported by Hellmann’s, said: “We can’t wait to welcome Need Street Food to this year’s regional heats in Portsmouth. The competition provides a fantastic platform for traders to showcase their brands. Following last year’s competition, Buckinghamshire-based Bubble& went on to secure investment from Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar on the BBC’s My Million Pound Menu.”
The event will be hosted in Portsmouth at Gunwharf Quays. It is the second time the south coast shopping centre has hosted the competition and is expecting to welcome thousands of foodies from across the south over the bank holiday weekend.
Colin Wilding, General Manager at Gunwharf Quays, said: “Our waterfront location provides a unique location, allowing visitors to sample some of the best street food from across the south whilst enjoying spectacular views across our Marina.
“Visitors to the Street Food Awards can make the most of the centre over the bank holiday, whether it be shopping in some of our 90 outlet stores, taking a trip up the Emirates Spinnaker Tower, or visiting Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard which is right on our doorstep.”
