The Horticultural Society is set to celebrate its Centenary Year at the Emsworth Show this summer at a new site, The New Life Christian Church, Emsworth - the heart of the community!
As the founding event of the Emsworth Show, the Horticultural Society never fails to deliver a wonderful display on locally grown produce, arts and crafts and is an amazing community event with 150 volunteers, 20 judges and over 100 exhibitors taking part in the Horticultural Marquee as well as lots of craft, gardening and food stalls.
This year promises to be even more spectacular as the society celebrates their Centenary Year at the show on Bank Holiday Monday, the 26th August 2019 from 10:30am until 5pm with a fun packed day filled with local exhibits, stalls, entertainers, fun dog show and the new attraction in the main arena will be the Circus performers. The Circus performers will also be running free children’s workshops during the day.
The show moves to a new site for 2019. The New Life Christian Church opens its door and hearts to provide a stunning background for the show!
We are delighted to announce that the show will take place at a new venue this year, the show is moving to The New Life Christian Church site at Main Road (Entrance via Thorney Road) Emsworth, the heart of the community, where visitors can enjoy the show in beautiful surroundings with ample parking, wide open spaces for the showground where visitors can enjoy the events in the two arenas, entertainment and refreshment areas. Free parking onsite including plenty of disabled parking for visitors.
There will be three shuttle buses circling the route for visitors from the area from the New Life Church grounds to the former site on Horndean Road, the Hampshire Farm estate and the Town Centre at approximately 15-minute intervals between 9:30am and 5:30pm on the show day.
Matt Warren, Senior Pastor of the New Life Christian Church said: “We are so excited to be hosting the Emsworth Show this year. My wife and I have just started to lead the New Life Church, with a brilliant fast-growing team. Personally, I have grown up around Emsworth and love the fact that it’s a family-friendly, positive thinking community, where, over the years, New Life has become a great hub for that community spirit. We feel privileged to be part of everybody’s lives in Emsworth and further afield, whether through our weekend family services, or our local festivities. We are delighted to be working with the Emsworth Show team and donating the use of our grounds for this wonderful community event. We look forward to meeting you all!”
The 2019 Show – the Centenary Year of the Horticultural Society - a super day out for all the family!
The Emsworth Show Summer Exhibition is open to all the family at £5 per person and free for under 12’s. Taking place in the main marquee, there are over a hundred classes open to everyone including novices and will be open to the public between 12:30pm until 4:30pm. These classes include fruit and vegetable produce, cookery, flower arranging, photography, crafts and children’s sections which include animals created from vegetables and miniature gardens. Judging takes place in the morning and the exhibition is then open for public viewing at 1pm. The display is always worth seeing and you might be able to snap up a bargain at the end of the show when many entries are auctioned off. There are a range of entry fees for the open classes in the marquee, children and adult classes start at 20p per entry and all entries are anonymous unless they win a prize. New exhibitors are always welcome, so why not enter and try your luck. Faith Ponsonby, Show Chair and Acting Manpower Manager said: "It is wonderful to know that the future of the Emsworth Show is secure, after several years of struggling with parking and ground issues. The Church has been very welcoming, and we are all delighted that visitors to the show, and especially those who are disabled, will be able to park and go in through one entrance to the showground, and picnic under shady trees, while enjoying all the usual attractions and more! It's a super day out for all the family, time to chat and meet your friends after the holidays, as well as enjoying the familiar and new stalls, events and the amazing" exhibits in the big marquee, all for a small entry fee! It is not for nothing that it is known as 'The best little Show in the South'!"
Volunteer at The Emsworth Show
The Emsworth Show is a real community event, with some volunteers who are members of the Emsworth Horticultural Society, and others from across the area who help as well. Even those who put in hours of work in the months leading up to the show give of their time freely, and we work together as a team. Newcomers are most welcome - over the show weekend we need at least 150 people from 7:15am onwards. We can find jobs for the less able (taking entrance fees on the day, laying out the cloths on tables in the big marquee, helping keep the site secure) as well as those needing more muscle or stamina (helping put up gazebos, marking out the ground, putting up banners and stewarding for the judges). Volunteers can help leading up to the show, the weekend of the show, on showday itself and on 'Breakdown' Tuesday. Our volunteers not only become part of the show family, but have free entry to the show, as well as refreshments on the day. Volunteers can visit the website or call 01243 372825 for a volunteer form.
We still have spaces available for stallholders at the show. Stalls start at £35 for charities, £55 for trade, public liability insurance required, and stallholders may need to provide their own gazebo and table. Email Lizzie at email@example.com for more details.
