This August waterside leisure destination, Port Solent welcomed thousands of visitors to its first Retro Rewind event, a brand-new festival that celebrates the 40’s, 50’s, 60s and 70s, with a range of activities!
During the festival, visitors had the chance to learn how to swing dance from the Swing Dance Company, enjoy a traditional Punch and Judy show and jump and jive to a brilliant line-up of live music. The music performed at the festical was an array of genres and decades, everything from nostalgic bands, including Portsmouth-based retro covers band The Shakeups, rock ‘n’ roll band The Rock ‘A’ Toons, to swing singer Miss Amy Baker and her Swing Band, plus the sassy dynamic duo The Vintage Sweethearts.
At the festival visitors were able to explore and find an array of retro products and goods from lots of old timey stalls as well as a vintage style market. The festival also had a fantastic display of classic cars for visitors to enjoy! Plus, the fantastically fun, eight feet tall, Bridie the Tea Lady, who previously featured on Britain’s Got Talent, was dancing with her cake trolley. Gracie Ann’s Tea Room also provided afternoon tea outside The Trading Post so visitors could enjoy the entertainment while indulging in some English treats. Lisa Fowler, Events and Marketing Manager, said: “We’re delighted the first Retro Rewind event was a great success. The amount of people dancing was incredible and they didn’t stop all day. It’s the first event of this kind we’ve held and it’s obviously proved really popular.”
