Rowans Hospice Charity: Moon and Stars Memories Walk

Posted: 30th June 2021

“Registration is now open” Rowans Hospice Charity is delighted to announce the Moon & Stars Memories Walk being held on 31 July at Castle Field, Portsmouth.

As we emerge from the measures and restrictions enforced because of COVID-19 and move towards step 4 of the roadmap, the Charity is beginning the long road to recovery after the devastating financial losses caused by the Pandemic.

“This exciting event is a blended version of our much-loved Moonlit Memories Walk and our Starlit Walk” said Associate Fundraising and Marketing Manager, Deborah Pick. “Our Moon & Stars Memories Walk will be held on Saturday 31 July and is open to all ages, with walkers able to choose their journey of 3, 6 or 9 miles. Starting times will be staggered and places will be limited in line with current Government Guidelines regarding social distancing and may still be subject to change, postponement or cancellation at short notice.”

In 2019, our Moonlit Memories and Starlit Walks raised in excess of £120,000 for the Charity. It is a critical fundraising event and the Charity really does need your support more than ever to help recoup the financial losses as a result of COVID-19.”

The registration fee for the Moon & Stars Memories Walk is £10.00 for adults, £5.00 for children aged 3-16 years and FREE for under 3s, with a suggested sponsorship target of £150 (adults only) to support the Charity. There will also be a medal for all those taking part. The Charity is encouraging adult walkers to purchase a Moonlit Memories t-shirt on the night, for a suggested minimum donation of £5.00, or if they are past participants, to wear their t-shirt from previous years.

Children are encouraged to wear fancy dress and all participants will be able to download a Moon and Stars bib on the Charity’s website to write a personalised in-memory message for a loved one. Portsmouth Cathedral will also be open during the evening where all walkers will be able to visit for a moment of reflection.

The first staggered start will commence at 6.00pm with entertainment at Castle Field to include the amazing Big Noise Samba Band, and a Zumba warm up to cheer all of our walkers and supporters.

Rowans Hospice Charity is renowned for high quality palliative and specialist end of life care, with its role essential in supporting the NHS.  As the Charity’s reliance on voluntary donations remains critical, it is calling upon the local community for help to raise vital and much-needed funds. All funds raised through the Moon and Stars Memories Walk will be supporting the future of Hospice care, not only for patients with life-limiting illnesses, but for their families and carers too. From the moment of diagnosis through to bereavement support, all care is given without charge.

Concluding, Deborah said, “If you have ever had any contact with Rowans Hospice, you will appreciate just how important the Charity is to the local community. But even if you haven’t been in contact before, please consider registering today to support local Hospice care. We cannot thank all our supporters enough and look forward to seeing them all very soon.”
