Donation hub set up to help people of Ukraine

Posted: 10th March 2022

A donation hub collecting humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine has been set up in the Meridian Shopping Centre, Havant.

Havant Borough Council provided local charity Stella’s Voice a vacant shop unit to get donations directly to refugees fleeing the conflict.

To help support refugees, the centre will be collecting essential items* including good quality clean warm clothes for women, teenagers and children, over the counter medicines (aspirin, paracetamol, Ibuprofen, codeine, Calpol), nappies, wipes and other essential baby items, sanitary items, toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorants, shampoo, soaps, towels, sleeping bags and blankets.

Dried, packet or tinned food with at least six months expiry date on them will also be welcomed before trucks ship the donations direct to Moldova to help and support those in need.

Councillor Alex Rennie, Leader of Havant Borough Council said, “The situation is developing quickly, and I know many local people want to show their support for Ukraine in practical ways.  By opening this collection point here in the heart of Havant town centre it will allow donations to be quickly processed before being shipped out to those most in need.”

Operations Director Wayne Keeping at Stella’s Voice added: “The situation looks set to become Europe’s largest refugee crisis this century, and we are responding as quickly and effectively as possible.

“People in Ukraine and those who have fled to neighbouring countries are relying on international aid and the generosity of strangers around the world, just to get the basic necessities.”

The donation point will be open Monday to Friday 9:30am–4pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm for the next eight weeks.

Online donations are also welcomed at www.stellasvoice.org/ukrainedonations.

Stella’s Voice would like to hear from anyone who has a warehouse or similar size space to assist with storage. If you can help or would like to volunteer your time by way of a donation, please contact Stella’s Voice directly on 07811 091814.
