Commitments to plant more than 50,000 trees in East Hampshire

Posted: 10th May 2022

East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) has secured commitments to plant 50,690 trees as part of its pledge to see 120,000 planted in the district.

The total has been reached through commitments from residents, developers and community groups and the trees should have been planted by the end of March (when tree planting season ended).

Councillor Robert Mocatta, EHDC portfolio holder for Climate Change and Placemaking, said:

“We set ourselves a very ambitious tree planting target and I’m very pleased that we’ve managed to take such a large step towards it.

“Tree planting is an important part of tackling the climate emergency, as it helps remove carbon from the atmosphere and encourages local wildlife.”
